Barbara Kruger forces you to think!
Barbara Kruger (born 1945) is not a photographer, but all of her activities are associated with pictures and images, as she uses them to contact with the world- asking questions, indicates problems with uncomfortable topics. The images she uses are in the fact cut out from newspapers, posters, postcards to which she 'sticks' invented by herself slogans. The sentectes she uses reflect the social problems that are often a taboo topics, as they are uncomfortable, but her issues relates to life as it is 'here and now'.
The form that Kruger has chosen for her work is actually taken from the commercial world, her posters operate the same procedures as e.g leaflets. Short text, clear meaning, attractive picture, it is all we are able to see on billboards,press or in advertising. So audience surrounded every day by the similar kind of work, after looking at Kruger's pieces do not always expect to read out the message with the first look, which often surprise them and stimulate to the further thinking. She was able to use the same way of getting audience's attention as the large corporations.Emotions, Beauty and Wisdom.
And another artist who use text in interesting way is Jenny Holzer, one of the greatest American artists of the middle generation. At the beginning of her artistic career dealt with abstract painting, which gradually began to introduce elements of the text. In the second half of the 70s she completely abandoned painting for new forms of expression, accepting written words as her primary medium of art expression. Jenny Holzer focuses on the artistic use of words placed in public spaces-using posters, LED screens, but also plates of bronze, painted signs, stone benches, footrests, stickers, T-shirts, photographs, sound, video, light-projection and internet. She herself created texts between 1977 and 2001, however from 1993 she started to use texts of famous writers from around the world.

In Poland she create her projection over the King's Castle in Krakow, using the text of famous polish poet, Czeslaw Milosz.
I really enjoy looking at her work, as she uses the beautiful places to display her projections, along with very emotional texts, which makes people to reflect on their lives, history and what surrounds them.

During the summer I visited an exhibition in abandoned hospital in Duszniki-Zdroj, Poland. The exhibition was created with all amateurs artists from this area, some of them living out from their art, and some student, just trying to find way of expressing themselves. Many of the pieces was created using text, but all of them sent different meaning. And it was actually very exciting exhibition, because I still remember the times, when the hospital was still working, and I spent lots of times there. And additionally to it, many works were fitted perfectly to rooms.
